“We survived Juan, we can kill Bill”!

As Hurricane Bill howled over the Atlantic and surged towards Nova Scotia, it was clearly no match for the determination of Intact Insurance Atlantic claims management and staff.

Karen Mader, the Regional Director of Claims, commented “Emergency plans were in place and all services that could be needed by our customers, were on stand-by. Roughly 20 Intact Insurance claims personnel were available for calls on Sunday, and I am very proud of all of the people that helped either with the planning or the execution of our emergency plans. Adjusters from Quebec were also on alert to fly in for additional assistance too.”

The emergency plan also included a list of people from other departments, willing to work additional hours and help with incoming calls, in the event of a crisis. Our IT personnel in Quebec also rose to the challenge, since all systems were operational and ensured that claims could be set up quickly.

Fortunately the storm passed over the region very quickly and damage reported to date is minimal. This storm not only offered an opportunity to review our emergency planning procedures, but quickly became an opportunity to catch up after summer vacation time, as staff waited patiently for calls.

We are all reminded during events like this, that our customers give us their business and their trust. The employees of Intact Insurance, working together, determine if we keep it.

The staff of the Atlantic division and our colleagues’ from the other regions who offered support, rose to the occasion and proved by their actions, that our customers’ trust, is well placed.
