We Continue to Assist Slave Lake Customers

Hundreds of firefighters continue to battle dozens of wildfires across Alberta, as evacuees from Slave Lake wait to find out whether their homes survived the fire that destroyed much of the town.

We have been working hard to get there first and get customers back to where they should be. We are writing cheques on the spot to provide emergency funding so customers can cover their basic needs, such as clothing, food and accommodations. We also have a trailer set up in Athabasca right beside the evacuation centre where customers can come in and talk to us about their policy. Once we can get in to the evacuated area, we will set up two more trailers that are even bigger and will include space for customers to sit, a bathroom, room for desks and chairs, etc. We will have contractors, vendors, structural engineers, and Esporta suppliers – a cleaning system for soft contents– ready to go.

This is a very difficult time for the residents of Slave Lake. Our first concern is to make sure customers are okay and try to give them some support while they deal with this catastrophic event.

We’re having a conversation with each and every customer that has contacted us to begin the paperwork associated with a claim. Until we can get into the area to assess the damage, we offer customers emergency funding to help them get through the next few days and weeks.
